What you need to know at Manchester Airport if you are due to fly this month

From July 1, flights will be up and running again from Manchester Airport.

Terminal 3 will reopen with airlines British Airways, Ryanair, Air France, KLM, Eastern Airways and Loganair as well as Jet2 and easyJet who are also resuming their flight programme.

However, while some will be keen to get away, the government's advice is still against all but essential travel with those entering the UK subject to a 14 day quarantine.

For those who are dusting off their suitcases and looking at a break, there will be differences at the airport and certain rules to follow.

Here is everything you need to know.

Should I wear a face mask?

All passengers and staff are now being asked to wear face masks at the airport at all times - this includes within the terminal and while travelling on airport buses.

Customers are expected to bring their own face covering.

Will I have to queue for security?

Guidance on security hasn't yet been made clear by the airport but those attending do have the opportunity to pre-book a time slot to get you through quicker.

Each slot lasts 15 minutes and gives passengers access to a designated lane straight to the security checkpoint.

Can I wait in the airport to meet a friend or family member?

If you have a loved one flying into the airport, you may be inclined to want to meet them as soon as they step back on UK ground.

However, you are now only allowed to enter the airport if you are flying.

This is to create more space for social-distancing measures to be safely implemented.

You can, however, enter the airport if you are assisting someone but can only go with them to the assistance point.

Will shops and restaurants be open?

Manchester Airport says that most of its shops and restaurants are currently closed.

They do expect these to begin opening again as they move into the summer period, but there is currently very limited availability of food and drink inside the terminal.

What about social distancing?

While keeping apart is advised, the airport says that social distancing won't always be possible in an airport but there are many other measures to keep you safe.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Temperature testing screening is currently being trialled and you may see this as you enter security.

Passengers are also being encouraged to clean their hands regularly. Additional hand sanitising stations have been installed throughout the airport.
