Valued at $19.3 billion by market cap, Springdale, Arkansas-based Tyson Foods, Inc. (TSN) operates as the biggest U.S. chicken company and produces, distributes, and markets chicken, beef, pork, as well as prepared foods. The farm products giant is expected to announce its third-quarter results before the markets open on Monday, Aug. 4.
Ahead of the event, analysts expect Tyson Foods to deliver a profit of $0.79 per share, down 9.2% from $0.87 per share reported in the year-ago quarter. On the positive note, the company has a solid earnings surprise history and has surpassed the Street’s bottom-line estimates in each of the past four quarters.
For the full fiscal 2025, analysts expect TSN to report an EPS of $3.83, up a staggering 23.6% from $3.10 reported in fiscal 2024. In fiscal 2026, its earnings are expected to further grow 10.7% year-over-year to $4.24 per share.
TSN stock prices have dropped 5.2% over the past 52 weeks, notably underperforming the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 11.6% gains and the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLP) 4.4% uptick during the same time frame.
Tyson Foods’ stock prices plunged 7.8% following the release of its mixed Q2 results on May 5. Although the company reported hikes in product prices, its volumes remained under pressure. This led to its overall topline remaining flat year-over-year at $13.1 billion, missing the consensus estimates by 61 basis points. Meanwhile, its gross profits took a hit due to rising cost of sales, and its operating cash flows for the quarter dropped 28.1% year-over-year to $846 million. However, its adjusted EPS of $0.92 surpassed the consensus estimates by 8.2%.
The stock maintains a consensus “Moderate Buy” rating overall. Of the 10 analysts covering the TSN stock, opinions include three “Strong Buys” and seven “Holds.” Its mean price target of $64 indicates a 17.8% upside potential from current price levels.
