New Delhi: At the time of writing this, we don’t know how much the OnePlus 7T Pro or its special McLaren Edition will cost to the customer. But having tried both the devices for a few days, we can confirm that neither of these devices command a higher price tag than the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7.
For the customer, that means two things:
First, if you have a OnePlus 7 or 7 Pro, you’re not losing anything with these new devices. The OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro aren’t big updates and barely bring anything new to the table.
Secondly, if OnePlus doesn’t discontinue the phones it launched earlier this year then you get better value for money for those devices.
With that being said, there’s no denying that the OnePlus 7T Pro is a great device. It’s just difficult to understand why it exists. Consequently, it’s difficult to put your money on a company that thinks it needs to update a smartphone that already has no equal in terms of value, that too without providing any meaningful changes.
The only real change in the OnePlus 7T Pro is the fact that it has the Snapdragon 855+ chipset inside. That’s an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 855, which was Qualcomm’s flagship system-on-chip (SoC) so far, which doesn’t make a huge difference in your day-to-day usage.
The Mclaren Edition, on the other hand, is a new colour with orange accents and the Snapdragon 855+ chipset.
In essence, the OnePlus 7T Pro seems to exist for two reasons -- that it is not a big enough update to be launched a year apart and with the iPhone 11 gaining attention, Xiaomi’s Redmi K20 Pro putting up a fight, and Google Pixel 4 enroute, OnePlus feels the need to keep the consumer’s attention on itself.
Like the OnePlus 7 Pro, there’s not much to question about this phone. It has a nice, premium and curved design. It’s slightly heavy and too wide to fit comfortably for single handed usage. And it has a sharp, colourful and smooth display.
There’s no denying that the OnePlus 7T Pro is an excellent smartphone. And like its predecessor, it doesn’t justify the expected 50k price tag because of its camera. It’s actually quite disappointing that OnePlus couldn’t improve the camera on this phone, because that’s the one weakness that keeps this from being considered amongst the iPhones, Galaxys and Pixels of the world.
In sum, the OnePlus 7T Pro is a great smartphone and certainly amongst the best you can buy today. As far as a buying verdict goes, we really don’t see anything new to warrant a change from out verdict from the OnePlus 7 Pro, but we’ll wait for the full review to make that official.
