Anyone who is in receipt of tax credits must renew them by the end of July, or their payments will be stopped.
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) said parents in receipt of child tax credits and those who claim working benefit have until July 31 to renew their applications for the next 12 months.
If people do not renew, it could mean payments are stopped. In the worst cases, people may even have to repay what they have received since April this year.
What are tax credits?
Tax credits are designed to help working families with targeted financial support.
These payouts are made regularly by the state into bank accounts to support those with children or in work but with a low income. In most cases, they'll be paid to parents/guardians who work between 16 and 24 hours a week.
For most people, the benefit has now been replaced by Universal Credit - in fact, you can now only make a new claim for child tax credits or working tax credits if you get the severe disability premium or got it in the past month and are still eligible for it.
Once you receive it, you can claim up until August 31 after your child's 16th birthday.
Angela MacDonald, from HMRC, said: "We know that customers lead busy lives, which is why our online services are available day and night.
"Customers can complete their tax credits renewals at a time convenient to them. Renewing on time is vital to ensure that their payments don’t stop."
