What would the return of Alejandro Villanueva mean for the Steelers?

There is some speculation floating around that the Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t closed the door on re-signing offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva. In 2015, Villanueva took over the starting left tackle spot for the Steelers and started 90 straight games.

But there is no denying Villanueva took a step back in 2020 as a run blocker but he was not alone. The line as a whole struggled but with Villanueva being a free agent it seemed natural he would not return.

If the speculation is true and the Steelers are planning to bring Villanueva back, this changes so much for the Steelers plans going forward. With Zach Banner back under contract and Chuks Okorafor returning, Villanueva in the fold would all but eliminate any motivation the Steelers would have to draft an offensive tackle early in the 2021 NFL draft.

This would allow the Steelers to focus on other positions in the draft including center and running back to help further bolster the offense.
