Mario Balotelli's selfie celebration: Maverick forward celebrates Marseille goal with Instagram snap

If Jose Mourinho thought he had seen it all when it comes to modern-day footballers on social media, Mario Balotelli will make him think again.

Former Manchester City and Liverpool striker Balotelli has led a storied career across the globe, and is never far from a headline.

The Italy international has been in fine form since signing for Marseille in January after terminating his contract with Nice, scoring three goals in four games for the Ligue 1 club.

Balotelli added another goal to his collection on Sunday night, acrobatically volleying home from close range against St Etienne following a corner after 12 minutes.

Man City fans (and a fair few Manchester United supporters too) will remember the 28-year-old's iconic goal celebration during City's 6-1 win at Old Trafford back in 2011 by shooting down newspaper reports with a 'Why always me?' t-shirt underneath his kit.

And Balotelli added another memorable celebration to the collection on Sunday by following Francesco Totti's example and whipping out a phone to take an on-pitch selfie with his Marseille team-mates.

The celebration appeared to be pre-planned as a pitch-side cameraman held out a phone for the onushing Balotelli, who duly uploaded the footage to Marseille's Instagram page.

Why always him?

Because he's Mario Balotelli.
