What word did Brian Flores say describes himself best?

Dolphins coach Brian Flores sat down with Peter Schrager of NFL Network this morning for an on-air interview. During the segment, Schrager asked Flores for a single word that people should use to describe himself.

Flores’ response?

Humility.

It’s hardly a surprise to anyone who has listened to Flores speak for more than 30 seconds. Flores has been very transparent about his desire for a room with zero egos and being one to “walk the walk” is essential for his message to hit home.

During Flores’ press conference here in Indianapolis, Flores heaped praise towards assistant head coach Jim Caldwell for his experience and the value that he’ll bring from that perspective. The general overtone? Flores won’t be afraid to use his coaches when decisions need to be made.

That same message was reiterated on the segment with Schrager.

“I think we live in a world where it’s all about the individual. When you step into our facility, it is about the team…we want a group of people, from top to bottom, who don’t have egos, who put the team first.”

Whether you get tired of Flores’ insistence in driving home the message, it’s hard not to admire it. Flores has been focused on something that we’ve seen plague the Dolphins to a certain degree for quite a while.

Successfully undergoing this culture shift will require time and a herculean effort, but Flores continues to drive home that he’s going to try.
