What Wolves are planning to do with Adama Traore amid Tottenham transfer interest

Tottenham were determined to complete the signing of Wolves winger Adama Traore in the last few days of the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old, who has less than two years remaining on his contract at Molineux, has played in all three of his side's Premier League matches so far this season, including against Spurs, where he was one of the brightest players on the pitch.

Nuno Espirito Santo, who managed Traore at Wolves before moving to Tottenham, is understood to be keen on reuniting with the Spain international, but if any deal is to be struck then it will have to wait until January, or next summer.

The West Midlands club will not want that to happen, though, with Bruno Lage reportedly determined to keep hold of the former Barcelona winger.

Now, according to The Sun, Wolves are planning to make Traore their highest paid player, where he will be on £120,000-a-week, to fend off interest from Tottenham.

The report claims that Spurs failed with two offers for Traore before the transfer window concluded, with the north London club's highest bid being £30million, some £20m off Wolves' valuation of the Spaniard.

Espirito Santo is clearly a huge fan of the powerful winger, and when speaking about him in last month's 1-0 victory over Wolves, the Portuguese boss lauded Traore's ability.

He said: "I think Wolves have a very good team and created us enormous problems, big, big problems.

"One of those was Adama. Everyone knows Adama is unique and he's very hard to stop."

Newly-appointed Wolves manager Lage recently insisted that the club want to keep Traore with them for some time yet.

He said to Sky Sports : "Of course, we want to keep Adama. We are doing well, but we are few in number, we need more players. I don't think about anyone leaving, I want to think about guys coming in.

"We need to be there, we need to be competitive. If we miss out on one player, at night everyone, me, the chairman, the fans, we go to sleep at night because we have another one to go for."
