What William Saliba did to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in Arsenal training ahead of Aston Villa

William Saliba's confidence has not been knocked despite a slow start to his Arsenal career.

The teenager, who returned to north London in the summer following a loan spell at Saint-Etienne, is yet to make his competitive debut under Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and has also been left out of the Europa League squad.

With that said, some Arsenal fans think Saliba could make a surprise appearance against Aston Villa on Sunday night after noticing that he wasn't involved with the U23's on Friday.

It remains to be seen if Saliba will be considered for selection, but he's done his chances of first-team involvement no harm following the latest training session.

Ahead of the game at the Emirates Stadium the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Alexandre Lacazette, Hector Bellerin, and Mesut Ozil were put through their paces at the club's London Colney training base.

And there was a moment that highlighted Saliba's quality in one v one situations.

As spotted in a behind the scenes of Arsenal's training session video uploaded to YouTube, at around the 4.52-minute mark, the Frenchman is tasked with stopping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

A task he passes with flying colours as he times his tackle to perfection and dispossesses the Arsenal captain with ease before swapping passes with Calum Chambers to score at the other end.

Arteta has recently spoken about Saliba's predicament and suggested that he's growing tired of it.

"Yeah, fed up with the situation," Arteta said in his press conference ahead of Thursday's Europa League win over Molde. "As you can see we tried to find a way in the last few days to give him some football. I explained that he needed that transition year when we decided to buy him.

"For many reasons that didn't happen and he needs to go through that.

"With the amount of central defenders that we have in the team, we had to let him out of the squad which is painful.

"After that, we had some injuries and we could have used him but it's part of this profession."
