What William Saliba did before Arsenal confirmed Pablo Mari transfer and David Luiz deal

Arsenal supporters have been given a glimpse of what Mikel Arteta's central defensive options will look like next season.

Two players who have signed for the 2020/21 campaign are David Luiz and Pablo Mari.

The latter has earned a permanent deal at the Emirates Stadium despite making just three appearances across all competitions following his arrival from Flamengo in the January transfer window.

David Luiz: Is his reputation as error-prone unfair?

Meanwhile, the Gunners have taken up the option to extend Luiz's contract by a further 12 months in a decision that has been widely ridiculed by rival supporters on social media.

But technical director Edu is more than pleased with the transfer business.

"I am really happy that we will have these players in our squad for the future," he told the club's official website. "They have been part of the long-term technical plan Mikel and I have developed.

"They bring the right balance to our squad.

"David is a really important player for us. He has played most of our matches this season and has been important for the team. His passing, his communication with the team on and off the pitch. He helps everyone.

"With Pablo we’re all disappointed he got injured at Manchester City. Since Mikel arrived here he was asking for a central defender who was left-footed.

"We were really pleased with Pablo - his behaviour, the way he is training, his mentality and his quality.

"Unfortunately, he has that injury but of course we are really happy to keep him for the future.

Ahead of Arsenal's announcement, William Saliba - who will begin his Gunners career alongside Mari and Luiz next season - was spotted in training.

But with loan club Saint-Etienne who posted images of the centre-back to their official Twitter account on Tuesday evening as they prepare for a cup final.

However, Saliba may not be allowed to play in the Coupe de France final against Paris Saint-Germain on July 24.

The 19-year-old's loan deal set to expire on June 30, but the Ligue 1 outfit are in talks with Arsenal over an extenstion.

"William is at the end of the contract at the end of the month," Claude Puel said in a press conference. "He takes great pleasure in training with his team, we will see what can be done to keep him a little longer with us "
