What will the weather be like in May? Met Office forecast for North East ahead of May bank holiday

Summer is just around the corner, with the May bank holiday on the horizon.

And after a mixed April, May is expected to bring a multitude of different weather. Expect sunny spells throughout the month with fog, wind and rain also likely.

According to the Met Office, between the end of April and the beginning of May it will most likely to be dry with variable cloud and some clear and sunny spells, though possibly some mist or fog patches inland first thing on Wednesday.

Most areas should remain dry but showers are possible in the north and later in the far south. It is likely to be breezy in the southwest, and the south at times.

The start of May is most likely to be settled across much of the UK with clear or sunny spells under an area of high pressure. Most places will remain dry however a few showers are likely at times particularly for the north and east, where they could be heavy.

Winds will generally be light with the greatest chance of strong winds probably along the east coast. Temperatures near to or slightly below normal.

The remainder of the month will most likely be settled across much of the UK. There will be clear or sunny spells at first. A good deal of dry weather is to be expected, however there will also be a chance of showers in places as well as a lower risk of more prolonged rain.

This may become unsettled more generally for a time mid-May before returning to drier and more settled conditions towards the end the month. Temperatures are most likely to be close to or above normal.
