Holidaymakers have been reassured that bookings with struggling travel company Thomas Cook will remain 'secure' if the firm is sold off.
The world's biggest travel agent has revealed it may be divided in two as part of a £750m rescue deal.
After months of talks and speculation, on Friday, the company revealed discussions for a sale to its largest shareholder and Chinese owner of Club Med are at an "advanced stage".
If the deal goes ahead, the airline and travel agent would get a £750million cash boost to pay off its debts.
However, with talks progressing just weeks before peak holiday season, there are fears it could spell bad news for passengers travelling in the short term, at least.
But when our sister site, Mirror Money, asked the airline if potential crisis talks could lead to holiday cancellations it said passengers should not worry.
A spokeswoman said: "Holidays and flights will not be impacted and will continue to operate as normal. All of our holidays are still ATOL-protected, and customers can book their holidays and flights with confidence."
Peter Fankhauser chief executive of Thomas Cook added: "Holidaymakers can have complete confidence travelling and booking with Thomas Cook. The only people going anywhere are the 11 million customers booked with us this summer.
"They can book with us without worries," he said. "We have enough resources to operate our business so they can enjoy their holidays with us."
