What will happen to the Thomas Cook routes from Bristol Airport?

Bristol Airport has spoken about plans for routes which were exclusively served by Thomas Cook before the travel group's liquidation.

The airline collapsed last month, prompting the UK's biggest peacetime repatriation, recovering more than 150,000 holidaymakers – an exercise which was completed on Monday.

Most of the destinations covered by Thomas Cook from Bristol Airport were also served by other firms, but two were not.

Planes from Bristol are no longer flying to Preveza in Greece and Almeria in Spain since Thomas Cook's collapse.

A Bristol Airport spokesman said: "Our immediate focus since the collapse of Thomas Cook has been on supporting passengers and colleagues impacted by recent events.

"As part of the Civil Aviation Authority’s Operation Matterhorn, a total of 42 repatriation flights have returned more than 7,000 passengers to Bristol Airport in the past fortnight.

"While the majority of destinations served by Thomas Cook from Bristol Airport are already offered by other airlines, we will be working with partners to replace lost seat capacity in order to meet demand from holidaymakers in our region."

The news comes after Hays Travel agreed to buy all 555 Thomas Cook shops in the UK, with 2,500 jobs set to be saved.

Thomas Cook had stores in Bedminster, Kingswood and Cribbs Causeway.
