What will £225,000 buy you in the UK property market?

Under £225,000: Property: Bangor
This three-bed semi in Gwynedd is dwarfed by its grounds – six rugged acres of the Snowdonian foothills four miles from Bangor. One for recluses, this – especially those which favour sauna-style wood-lined walls and ceilings. The inside is more snug than stylish and you’ll have to put up with a downstairs bathroom. Two stone outbuildings are currently used as stables.

Under £225,000: Property: Norfolk
This three-bed cottage in Norfolk, in the village of Botesdale, near Diss, is the main cross wing of a 17th-century house and is festooned with vintage features. Recent renovations have added a shower room downstairs and an en suite to the master bedroom. A garden room opens on to the back garden – sadly a mere courtyard, albeit a prettily landscaped one – and there’s a large farmhouse-style kitchen with an inglenook. A neighbour shares the driveway and the middle berth in the three-bay cart lodge, although you get another cart lodge of your very own beyond the garden.

Under £225,000: Property: Renfrew
This new-build four bedroom house in Renfrew in the north-western sprawl of Glasgow, has been given a makeover by its owners and will suit minimalist, modern preferences. The main bedroom has an en suite and the smallest bedroom gets a balcony, while the garage, opening off the utility room, doubles as a gym. For all its elegant landscaping the garden is thoroughly overlooked by surrounding homes.

Under £225,000: Property: Stanmore
This one-bed flat in the London borough of Harrow comes with luxuries that eclipse its compact living space – use of a private residents’ gym, a concierge and secure parking. It is a third-floor portion of a new development in Stanmore, half-a-mile from Canon’s Park station, with wooden floors, chic kitchen and bathroom. The balcony overlooks communal gardens that make up for the fact that this is, scenically speaking, an unremarkable part of town.

Under £225,000: Property: Torquay
This two-bed flat in Devon absorbs the drama of Torquay bay, with aerial views from the sitting room and a 19ft glazed balcony over the town and harbour and out to sea. The same vista is the backdrop for the terraced gardens shared by the residents of this apartment block. The decor and carpets are all new and the place is being sold with no onward chain.
