What Wilfried Zaha will tell Crystal Palace teammates before they face Liverpool at Anfield

For a long time, Wilfried Zaha has been Crystal Palace's go-to guy. He's the man they look to inspire them to victory on the pitch and one of the team's big leaders in the dressing room off it.

That was evident last Saturday against Spurs, as the winger scored one and created another to help inspire the Eagles to a memorable 3-0 victory at a packed Selhurst Park.

In this mood, and with the whole team playing well, Zaha flourishes, and there are very few defenders at the top level that can deal with his trickery and pace.

It's no surprise then to hear that Zaha takes a hands-on approach when it comes to rallying his teammates before big matches, reminding them that "it doesn't matter" who they're up against - only the best is good enough from every player.

Sometimes, he admits, this means he can be spotted moaning at his teammates while on the pitch, such is his passion and desire for the team to succeed.

But other times, especially when Palace play against top teams with several star players, Zaha says he always tries to lead by example, saying that his team shouldn't fear badges or names.

"People see me moaning on the pitch it's just because I'm passionate - I don't like losing so I get annoyed," the winger told talkSPORT.

"It's not moaning for the sake of moaning, I just demand from my team. I demand the best from the team that's why I go around moaning, and it seems negative but it's like 'I know we're better than this, I see you lot week in, week out.'

"Before games, I tell some of the players: 'don't fear these badges, don't fear these names, it doesn't matter.'

"I don't care who we're playing against I'll still get it in a tight position and try and get out of it. It's difficult at times but once you get on the pitch I just get on with it."

Crystal Palace have already faced some of the top teams in the Premier League this season, with their performances getting better as each match goes by.

A 2-2 draw away at West Ham and last week's 3-0 over Spurs were both markedly better performances than Palace had offered against Chelsea and Brentford, though in both of those games Vieira was missing some key components of his newly formed side.

This weekend Palace have yet another tough challenge as they travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool, who on Wednesday night managed to overcome AC Milan 3-2 in the Champions League at home.

Palace don't have the best recent form against Jurgen Klopp's side, having lost each of their last eight consecutive matches against them in the Premier League.

Last season Liverpool hit the Eagles for seven at Selhurst Park in December, before winning 2-0 in Merseyside in what was Roy Hodgson's final game as Palace manager.
