What West Ham takeover bid would mean for David Moyes amid Newcastle transfer spend comparison

Daniel Kretinsky’s reported interest in acquiring a 27% stake in West Ham could give the club a much needed financial boost; but they wouldn't suddenly have the spending power of a club like Newcastle.

The Czech businessman is reportedly worth £2.9 billion, and undoubtedly if he does invest in the club, the added cash would allow the Hammers to be more competitive in the transfer market.

With the January window looming West Ham are crying out for another striker to deputise for Michail Antonio, they also need another left-back to cover for Aaron Cresswell.

An injection of funds would allow the club to bring in the reinforcements needed to continue competing on all fronts.

Whilst any investment from Kretinsky would allow the Hammers to continue their evolution, it by no means would it spell revolution at the London Stadium.

The Public Invest Fund that recently bought Newcastle are worth a reported £320 billion, the spending power of the Magpies now dwarfs every other club in the Premier League.

Provided they stay up this season they will be able move through several tiers in the league as transfer fees and player wages will simply not be a problem.

With the financial might they now possess, Newcastle are set up to become the next Chelsea/Manchester City in the coming years; those clubs have laid down a blueprint for success that the Magpies will aim to replicate.

West Ham’s progress over the last two years has been remarkable, any investment into the club will only serve to further aid the gradual rise they’ve made under David Moyes.

However, with the modern wealth of football owners such as Chelsea's Roman Abramovich and Man City's Sheikh Mansour the landscape has changed.

Only a takeover by an owner with comparable wealth would allow the Hammers to smash through the glass ceiling and challenge for the very top honours in the game.
