What were Colts ‘best’ and ‘worst’ signings from 2024 offseason?

What were the best and worst signings from the Indianapolis Colts’ 2024 offseason?

Pro Football Focus recently answered that question for each NFL team, and when it comes to the Colts, this was a pretty easy exercise.

With GM Chris Ballard keeping the status quo from 2023 to 2024, a roster construction move that he has since called a “mistake,” the Colts only made two outside free agent additions last offseason bringing in Joe Flacco and Raekwon Davis.

Dalton Wasserman, who put this article together for PFF, would call Flacco the Colts’ “best” signing and Davis the “worst” signing, basically by default because there weren’t any other options.

Filling in for Anthony Richardson on numerous occasions, Flacco had good and bad moments. Included in the good were two 330-plus yard performances and a Week 18 win over the Jaguars.

The bad included a two game stretch against Minnesota and Buffalo–when Richardson was benched–where the Colts could barely move the ball let alone put up points.

Overall, Flacco appeared in seven games and made six starts. He completed 65% of his throws at 7.1 yards per attempt with 12 touchdowns to seven interceptions.

Davis, meanwhile, was a rotational member of the Colts defensive tackle position and struggled to make a steady impact. Playing only 30% of the defensive snaps, Davis ranked 122nd in PFF’s pass rush productivity metric and 149th in run stop rate. All season, he mustered just eight tackles.

As I highlighted recently, Davis could be a potential cut candidate for the Colts this offseason.

If Ballard sticks true to his word, the emphasis this offseason for the Colts will be on bringing in competition, and with there being numerous positions that the team could justify adding to, there should be a different free agency approach this offseason in Indianapolis.

However, after eight years with Ballard at the helm, we will all remain in wait-and-see mode to see if or how that transpires.
