What We Learned After Week 10 Of Mountain West Football

Week 10 is over and we are still learning things.
With another week in the books it means we take a look at what we are learning about the Mountain West teams that suited up.
Air Force – The defense came up big in this game in stopping Army’s potent rushing attack by allowing just 3.35 yards per rushing attempt. The Falcons had a huge stand on 4th-and-goal at the 1-yard line.
Also a big revaltion is the continued success of fullback Timothy Jackson who had 155 yards and a touchdown. That was his fourth game in a row to have 100-plus yards.
Boise State – Resliance is what we learned about the Broncos. The game vs. San Jose State was a real struggle and Boise State had to come from behind to get a win over the Spartans. It took everything they had to get the win, and it helps that had a career game from running back George Holani who scored four times.
Colorado State – The offense is really good and will cause teams trouble the rest of the way. The schedule does get tougher by taking on Wyoming, Air Force and Boise State. Perhaps an upset or at least a big scare could happen in the passing game against either of those teams.
Fresno State – As Matt Kenerly said on the Week 10 recap podcast, he still has no clue of what to make of the Bulldogs. They got the win over Hawaii on the road and the offense had a good ground game with Ronnie Rivers scoring twice. The one player who stood out and could make a difference is wide receiver Jalen Cropper who completed a pass, scored on a rushing touchdown and caught three passes.
Hawaii – This might be cliche but the Warriors have some amazing wideouts this year, and this play below shows how good these wide receivers are.
What we think we know is that head coach Nick Rolovich has a quick hook for his quarterbacks and once again pulled out Cole McDonald in favor of Chevan Cordeiro.
Nevada – Quarterback Carson Strong did just fine under center had his best game of the year by completing 28 of 40 passes and had a pair of touchdowns. The Wolf Pack did defeat lowly New Mexico but stability at quarterback is something that Nevada needs.
New Mexico – Well… the offense has been moving the ball fairly well the past few weeks but when you go 5 of 15 on third downs, wins are not likely going to lead to any wins. Moving the ball is not really the issue but it is the efficiency that is holding them back.
San Jose State – So close. This close. The Spartans nearly pulled off a program changing win for San Jose State had they defeated Boise State. The Spartans are no longer a pushover and an argument could be made about Josh Love is the best quarterback in the conference.
UNLV – We know that head coach Tony Sanchez is on the extreme hot seat after a loss that knocked the Rebels out of bowl contention and an answer by athletics director Desiree Reed-Francois which was not exactly supportive of Sanchez.
Also, despite being healthy, quarterback Armani Rogers did not play.
Utah State – The Aggies had an epic meltdown in its blowout loss to BYU which saw quarterback Jordan Love have another back game this year. There are a lot of issues with this Aggies team but seeing the defense play as bad as it has the past few weeks is disturbing. They had another big blow by losing David Woodward for the year.
