What we know so far as 780 Fishburn homes left without power after 'incident'

Almost 800 homes in a County Durham village have been left without power following an "incident".

Main Street in Fishburn was closed at around 9pm on Monday.

Pictures from the scene showed police cars and a fire engine at the scene.

Northern Powergrid was said to have switched off power at 780 properties.

A Twitter post from Incidents TeesDurham said: "Northern Powergrid say they have had to switch off power for safety after an incident in the area and currently 780 properties in the village are without power."

The incident also caused disruption on the roads.

Go North East tweeted that service 239 was unable to stop at Willows Nursing home and Winterton Cottages due to the incident.

Police and the fire service have been contacted for comment.
