What was said at Newcastle United's Press conference on the back of Peter Kenyon's latest takeover bid

Steve Bruce has played down talk of a takeover at Newcastle United - despite the emergence of a fresh takeover bid from Peter Kenyon.

Details of a brochure, prepared for a bid last year, have been leaked to the media but the club have refused to talk and there has been no acceptable or fresh offer at this stage.

When Bruce was asked about Kenyon's interest, Bruce said: "Until I was briefed by Lee this morning, it was news to me.

"It is something I can't comment on."

And when asked if Mike Ashley had spoken to him about the prospect of a new owner, Bruce simply replied: "No".

But Bruce, who has worked for numerous clubs that have been in takeover talks, feels for him the revelations are water off a duck's back.

He said: "You have to get used to it.

"It's happened to me before.

"At this club in particular it's happened before."

Bruce took over the club amid talk that the Bin Zayed Group were keen to buy the club, but a deal didn't come off.

When asked if Ashley mentioned it to him during initial talks to take the head coach's job, Bruce said: "It's something that didn't really come into any conversations.

"It's happened so many times.

"It's something I didn't go into when I came.

"I can't influence it.

"The only thing I can influence is the results we get."
