What Walkers said after woman 'choked' on thread inside Wotsit

Crisp giant Walkers have said they were 'very concerned' to hear of the case of a Bristol woman who nearly choked on a Wotsit - because it had been baked around a 'tough' piece of thread.

The crisp company, which is owned by PepsiCo, has been communicating with Sarah Hardwell and has already sent her a bag to return the item to them for forensic tests.

Ms Hardwell says she was left gagging and choking on the wotsit, when she unwittingly ate a cheese puff which had somehow been baked or formed around a thread.

The Knowle grandmother said she was shocked for herself, but 'absolutely fuming' because she had already given her baby granddaughter Darcy one of the packets from the same multi-pack - and it could easily have been that packet with the thread in.

Walkers said they were instigating a 'full investigation' to find out what happened.

A Walkers spokesperson said: “We were very concerned to hear about Ms Hardwell’s experience.

"The quality and safety of our products are our top priorities and we have robust processes in place to ensure our products meet the highest standards.

"We are waiting to receive the item from the customer, so we can carry out a full investigation," she added.
