What Unai Emery's Europa League record has done to prepare Arsenal to beat Chelsea

Granit Xhaka has pinpointed the record of Unai Emery in the Europa League as a source of strength for Arsenal as they seek to overcome Chelsea in the final.

Blues manager Maurizio Sarri has never won a senior trophy in football while his opposite number in Baku stands the chance of becoming the most successful coach in the history of the Europa League and UEFA Cup.

The Spaniard is currently tied with Giovanni Trapattoni on three wins, all of which came with Sevilla between 2014 and 2016.

He would become a winner in Europe's secondary continental club competition for a fourth time if Arsenal beat Chelsea. No other manager has won either the Europa League or UEFA Cup on more than three occasions.

Sarri would win his first-ever trophy if he is able to outfox Emery after having lost to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the League Cup earlier this campaign.

According to Xhaka, having the more successful coach on the sidelines could help to swing the balance in Arsenal's favour by settling any nerves before kick off.

"We don’t speak about it to each other but he speaks with us about his own experience and how he won the trophy three times," said the Swiss midfielder.

"A lot of experience, if you are three times in the final in the Europa League you have a lot of experience, know how you feel, how the pressure is and I think anything else stays within our group.

"But he takes away the pressure but if you are in a final there is always pressure.

"I think he would be the first coach if wins a fourth so it's nice if you are alone at the top, yeah."

Emery has beaten English opposition in the final of the Europa League once before when he beat Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in 2016.
