Tyler Roberts has spoken ahead of Leeds United's upcoming match against Sheffield Wednesday.
It’s all to play for in Saturday’s late kick-off, as anything less than a win could prove fatal in Leeds’ battle for promotion.
Steve Bruce has had a good start to life in the Owls dugout, helping them mount a late push for the top six.
They’re six points behind sixth-place Bristol City and can’t afford any slip-ups if they’re to close that gap.
Bruce suffered his first defeat as Wednesday manager to his former club Aston Villa last weekend, conceding two late goals to lose 3-1, but his team recovered with an impressive 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in midweek.
“They’re always going to be a tough team to play against,” said Roberts. “We’ve seen that when we went to their place, we got a draw.
“I think they’re fighting to get into the playoffs, so it’s going to be a good game. We’re going into it with a lot of positivity.”
The young Wales international has started United’s last eight games and is currently keeping top scorer Kemar Roofe out of the line-up.
Roofe has recently become available after being out for six weeks with a knee injury, but Roberts has taken his opportunity, making the number ten role his own in his absence.
Wednesday fans will have mixed feelings about the weekend’s match, given a win would do their fierce city rivals Sheffield United an almighty favour in the race for promotion. But Roberts insisted that won’t have any bearing on the players.
“I think they’ve got their own target to into the playoffs,” he said. “They’ll be coming to win the game, the same as any other team would.”
