Fernando Llorente's recent move to Napoli means that Tottenham are rather light upfront at present having failed to bring in a frontman this summer.
Harry Kane will once again lead the line for the Lilywhites over the course of the campaign, with Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura both also able to play through the middle when required.
Troy Parrott is another option available to Mauricio Pochettino and the Irishman appears that he will get his chance in the first team sooner rather than later.
Ahead of last weekend's north London derby, the manager spoke about the difference between Spurs and Arsenal in the transfer market and named the 17-year-old as his "second specific striker" when detailing the differences in the projects.
"Arsenal, in the last two years, signed Aubameyang, the best striker in Germany; Lacazette, the best striker in France and, one year after, Pépé," said the Argentine .
"If you see us in five years … now our main striker is Harry Kane but our second specific striker is 17 years old, Troy Parrott. That is the difference in the projects."
Following his goalscoring debut for Republic of Ireland's U21s in their 1-0 win over Armenia on Friday night, Parrott was asked if his manager's recent comments fill him with confidence as he bids to break into the first team.
"It does and it doesn’t. I don’t take notice of most of that stuff," said the rising star, as reported by The42.
"I just keep trying to do what I can do in training and [trying to] get better."
Then asked if he thinks he will be involved in the first team soon given the Colchester United game is coming up, the youngster once again admitted that he is just focusing on doing his best in training as he bids to make a name for himself.
"I’m not sure really," he added. "Again, I’m just in training doing what I can do to the best of my abilities, trying to keep improving and if the chance does come, I’ll be ready."
The chance to train with the Spurs team on a regular basis now means that Parrott's game will only improve as he works alongside the likes of Kane, Son and Christian Eriksen day in, day out.
The youngster already feels that he is getting better with each passing day and that is from picking up tips from Kane and Co.
"Yeah, obviously he’s a world-class striker, so it’s really good to be in and around them, doing finishing drills with them," he said. "You find yourself getting better and better every day."
