What transfer deals Crystal Palace could do before January window closes

Crystal Palace could be set for a busy end to what has been a dramatic January transfer window.

Here, Standard Sport assesses what deals could be done before the deadline on February 2.

What has already been done

It has been a tumultuous month of change for Palace and there could be more big news to come with striker Jean-Philippe Mateta annoucing he wants to leave.

In the same press conference last Friday, Eagles fans not only learned the club had sold captain Marc Guehi but also that manager Oliver Glasner had informed chairman Steve Parish that he would leave when his contract ends in the summer.

Palace started the window off by signing Brennan Johnson from Spurs for £35m but have now sold Guehi for £20m plus add-ons.

Naouirou Ahamada has joined Auxerre on a free transfer.

Romain Esse and Owen Goodman have been loaned out to Coventry and Barnsley, respectively.

What else they need

The summer signing of Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse was completed with losing Guehi in mind, but they still need to strengthen at centre-back now the Englishman has left.

Cover is also needed for Daniel Munoz at right wing-back, and a striker who can play second fiddle to Mateta or, more likely, replace him if he leaves.

A host of clubs are lining up to sign Adam Wharton in the summer.

Now or in the summer?

The pursuit of a striker will need to be brought forward if Mateta’s exit is sanctioned.

Juventus tried to sign him and now Aston Villa, interested in summer 2024, are back in for the Frenchman, who has informed Palace he wants to leave this month.

Possible ins and outs

Palace are monitoring Evann Guessand who they wanted in the summer, as he is not playing regularly at Villa.

There are talks over signing teenage forward Sidiki Cherif from French club Angers.

They enquired about Ethan Nwaneri but the Arsenal teen is off to Marseille on loan.

Full-back Danny Imray was recalled from his loan at Blackpool and could go out again.

Winger Hindolo Mustapha, 19, had his loan terminated by Nurnberg.

Interest is building for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who is available for loan.
