What Tottenham forward Harry Kane said about England place following quiet Croatia display

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has suggested that he believes he is not undroppable in the eyes of England manager Gareth Southgate.

The Three Lions’ captain was quiet in the nation’s opening group game - the 1-0 victory against Croatia at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

There were calls for the Spurs man to potentially be dropped for the next game against Scotland but that seems highly unlikely considering Kane’s excellent record for his country under Gareth Southgate.

Indeed, the 27-year-old has netted 29 goals in 38 games under the current Three Lions head coach.

Despite that, Kane believes that his place within the England starting XI remains precarious due to the immense competition within the current squad.

Talking to ITV, he said: “You will have to ask Gareth [if I am undroppable] but I never look at it that way.

‘[Whether I start on the bench] is not my decision. I will train as hard as I can to play and that is the aim to try and lead the boys out and win the games.

“We have great competition for places. Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] has come in and done great. For me it is about training how I train every day try and be the best and try and improve every day and when I play try and give my best for the team.

“I think that is what everyone is doing at the moment and I am sure there will be rotation among all the players in this tournament - everyone is waiting for the chance to try and make an impact.”

Despite having failed to get on the scoresheet for the Three Lions in the opening game of the tournament, Kane will be aiming to rectify that on Friday as Scotland travel to Wembley.

He has already broken Scottish hearts before by netting a stoppage time equaliser at Hampden Park as the two sides met in World Cup qualifying in 2017.
