Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon has admitted he found Jamie Redknapp and Roy Keane's coming together during a staggering Sky Sports argument last weekend over his talents "funny."
Ahead of Tottenham's 4-0 win over Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Sunday, Redknapp, who was at the ground, clashed with Keane, who was in the Sky Sports studio, ahead of kick-off about the quality within Spurs' ranks, with Keane not convinced the squad is as good as some make out.
Keane described Jose Mourinho's side as 'average' much to the annoyance of Redknapp, who soon went through various members of the squad and highlighted their individual qualities.
When it came to assessing Reguilon, who joined Tottenham from Real Madrid back in September, Redknapp described the former Sevilla loanee "as good a left-back as there is in the country."
Keane, though, did not see it that way, sarcastically responding by saying: "That's why Madrid let him go."
Now, the man himself has reacted to Redknapp and Keane's remarkable argument. He insisted the former Manchester United man is entitled to his opinion but thanked Redknapp for defending him.
“This is Roy Keane’s opinion but we have a lot of top-class players who can play in every team," said Reguilon, as quoted by the Mirror. "We have the best players but thank you, Jamie, for defending me.
“It was so funny - he was really angry. I watched that and smiled a lot, it was very nice.”
Reguilon recently made his return to the side following a spell on the sidelines through injury and has helped Spurs win one of the two matches in which he has featured. He was an unused substitute against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Thursday evening, watching from the bench as an own-goal from Tosin Adrabioyo sealed a second successive victory for Jose Mourinho's side.
The win over the Cottagers has left Spurs five points short of the top four ahead of Sunday evening's clash with Crystal Palace.
“Now the feeling is we can arrive in the top four because we have a very good squad and we try to win every match,” added Reguilon.
“We want to go match to match, three points by three points, and by the end of the season we can be in the top four.
“We know it’s difficult but we have the players to get it.”
