What Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen has said about a 'fairytale' semi-final with Ajax

He started his senior professional football career at Ajax - and now Christian Eriksen will be facing his old side in the semi-final of the Champions League with Tottenham.

The Danish international helped Spurs knock Manchester City out of the competition last night (Wednesday) after a dramatic encounter at the Etihad Stadium, with Tottenham losing 4-3 on the night, but going through on away goals after the tie finished 4-4 on aggregate.

That set up a semi-final tie with the Dutch side, who defeated Juventus at the quarter-final stage, with Barcelona and Liverpool set to meet in the other tie in the last four.

And Eriksen says he is relishing the prospect of coming up against his former employers, having played more than 150 times in all competitions for the Dutch side between 2010 and 2013, prior to his move to Tottenham.

"I think after today, we take a deep breath," Eriksen said, speaking to BT Sport after the game.

"We saw the [Ajax] game, they were through so it would have been a fairytale to play them and now it is a fairytale. The first ten minutes of this game and the last five were a fairytale so it’ll be fun to go back and play there again."

Eriksen is not the only former Ajax player in the Tottenham side, with Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez all having previously played for the Amsterdam-based club.
