What Tomas Soucek is doing to stay sharp with West Ham banned from training ground

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek is keeping himself occupied while the Rush Green training ground remains closed after the coronavirus outbreak.

The Czech star, on loan from Slavia Prague for the rest of the season, has already posted updates of him running in forests to keep himself fit.

Now though, he is doing a bit more ball work at his house.

Johnson: All people in the UK should avoid pubs, clubs and theatres

Soucek is becoming a fan favourite very quickly in east London having put in three impressive performances for the club since joining on loan for a £4m fee, with the Hammers having a £20m permanent option to sign if they stay in the Premier League.

Soucek took to Instagram on Tuesday morning, hours after Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the nation saying to reduce social interaction.

The midfielder was keeping his skills up by practicing with his partner at their home in the capital.

They were taking part in some keepy-ups at home before she later volleyed the ball into an empty, but small, net.

The Hammers training ground remains closed until further notice.

The club was hopeful that they could return to base later this week but a Premier League meeting on Thursday could be key as to when they could come back.

The Premier League is currently suspended in at least April 4 as West Ham’s game against Wolves last Sunday was called off, as was their trip to Spurs this Friday.

Rush Green, plus Chadwell Heath and Little Heath, have all undergone deep cleans since the outbreak.

Manager David Moyes has also completed a seven-day isolation period after coming into contact with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who contracted the virus.

Football.London understands the Hammers manager has been given the all clear, as have his players as none of them have tested positive for symptoms of COVID-19.
