January sales will be cancelled but retail will be allowed to keep operating as Ireland enters Level Five yet again.
The Taoiseach announced this afternoon that Ireland's third lockdown will begin on Christmas Eve before a review on January 12.
But shops like Penneys, Smyths, Argos and all other retail won't have to shut their doors again.
Non-essential retail will be under the same restrictions they have been in recent weeks with limits on the number of people in stores and social distancing measures.
January sales events will have to be deferred, the Taoiseach outlined in his public address.
The other big changes
As expected, pubs, restaurants, hairdressers, barbers and cinemas will shut on December 24.
A new ban on inter-county travel will come in on St Stephen's night, in order to allow people to return to where they live after Christmas Day.
The number of households allowed to visit each other will be reduced to one other home from December 27, before being cut altogether from the New Year.
The number allowed to attend weddings will be down to just six people from January 2.
Religious services will be moved online only after Christmas Day.
