Toby Alderweireld has revealed that linking up with the Belgian national side is a "nice change of scenery" following Tottenham's poor start to the season.
In a campaign which promised so much two months ago, Spurs are currently 13 points off league leaders Liverpool and they have also yet to register a win in their opening two Champions League games.
Things came to a head last week with Bayern Munich hitting seven past them in Europe's top competition, before they then slipped to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat away at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The international break has probably come at the right time for Mauricio Pochettino and his squad as it gives them time to regroup and go again when Watford visit N17 in their next Premier League game.
As bad as results have been for Spurs in the opening two months of the campaign, the experienced defender has called on them not to panic as they look to put things right.
"A career is made of ups and downs. A few months ago, we were playing in the Champions League finals. It’s proof that everything can change very quickly, whether it’s good or bad," he said, as reported by Belgian publication DH .
"You have to accept the current situation and not panic.
"All we need to do is win a few games to get back on track, but I’m not hiding that being with the national team is a nice change of scenery."
Alderweireld and Belgian teammate Jan Vertonghen should return early to Hotspur Way next week as their country's final international game of the break comes on Sunday against Kazakhstan.
