What to look for this week: Minnesota Vikings

Storyline of the Week

After sitting out the first two preseason games due to precautionary reasons, Vikings RB Dalvin Cook proved to everyone that he’s ready for the regular season. In Saturday’s win over the Cardinals, Cook erupted for an 85-yard touchdown run, showing that same burst we saw during his rookie season. We won’t see Cook again until Sept. 8, when the Vikings host the Falcons at U.S. Bank Stadium in the season opener.Something to watch for in the team’s final preseason game against the Bills is the RB3 battle between Mike Boone and Ameer Abdullah. Going into that game, Boone has the edge.

Rookie Watch

More kicking concerns in Minnesota. After the Vikings traded a fifth-round pick for K/P Kaare Vedvik, that was supposed to be the answer for the team. But with Vedvik missing his two field goal attempts against the Cardinals, coach Mike Zimmer said after the game that his concern level was “high.”

Time is running out for the Vikings to make a decision on who their kicker will be in 2019. Will it be Vedvik? Dan Bailey? If Bailey wins the job and Vedvik becomes the punter, the Vikings will look pretty foolish for trading a fifth-round pick for a punter.
