What Timo Werner transfer means for Chelsea's interest in Jadon Sancho and Kai Havertz

Timo Werner's likely arrival from RB Leipzig for a fee of about £53million is a fine piece of business from Chelsea when you consider the timing and the cost of signing the Germany international compared to the other highly-coveted stars linked with Premier League moves in the next transfer window.

But what does it mean for potential pursuits of Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz, the other two Bundesliga stars linked with transfers to Stamford Bridge in the past few weeks?

Simply, moves for either Sancho or Havertz seem highly unlikely if the deal for Werner is completed over the next few days.

Moves for them are not entirely ruled out but the probability is significantly reduced with Chelsea's attention now turning to strengthening a left back, where Leicester City's Ben Chilwell is the number one target.

But it is also worth noting that the asking prices for Sancho and Havertz, north of £100million, have long been considered off-putting in the current climate for almost every club across Europe.

Manchester United remain keen on Sancho despite their hierarchy already warning against a very different transfer window but it is unclear if any team are willing to pay £120million for one player at a time of such financial uncertainty.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, are holding out for more than £100million for Havertz and Bayern Munich are said to be at the front of that particular queue for the 20-year-old.

All three players are outstanding attacking talents but in a business sense Werner looks the much better option.

It can all be boiled down to a straightforward question: are Sancho or Havertz twice the player he is?

Only the deluded or fans of other clubs who were linked with him will answer yes.
