What Timo Werner did in Chelsea training ahead of Champions League final vs Manchester City

Chelsea have completed their preparations for Saturday night's Champions League final against Manchester City.

The Blues go into the game at the Estadio do Dragao on the back of a 2-1 loss at the hands of Aston Villa as their 2020/21 Premier League season ended on somewhat of a sour note.

However, the result had little impact on the top-four race as Chelsea were still able to secure a place in Europe's elite competition for next season.

But they could take part next term as the defending champions as the omens are looking good especially given they've already beaten Manchester City twice in the past six weeks.

Ahead of the game in Portugal, the likes of Kai Havertz, Olivier Giroud, Ben Chilwell, and Mason Mount were put through their paces in training.

Given the session was on the eve of the Champions League final, as expected the squad was in good spirits.

Although, Timo Werner had a moment he will want to forget in a hurry.

As spotted in a 'Live training video uploaded to the club's YouTube page, the striker was taking part in a shooting drill with the rest of the squad but had trouble hitting the target.

At around the 2.03-minute mark, Werner is in a 1v1 situation with Edouard Mendy and manages to balloon the ball way over the bar despite being in a great position.

Werner has recently defended his debut season at Chelsea after being labelled as wasteful for the number of chances he has missed.

"I scored twelve goals and provided 15 assists. That makes me the leader at Chelsea. I’ve improved a lot, especially in terms of assists,” he told reporters. "But, of course, every missed chance hurts. For years, I’ve been in the business of creating those chances, and I’m sure I’ll get there again.

"Next year, I’ll start from scratch, I’ll keep working hard, and maybe the football god will be a bit better with me next season."
