What time you can see the pink supermoon at its brightest in skies above Edinburgh tonight

Anyone need a break from the TV?

Well, you can tune in to an amazing lunar spectacle tonight.

A spectacular supermoon will visible over Edinburgh later on, although you might need to stay up into the early hours to catch the best of it.

The moon is expected to be 30 per cent brighter and up to 14 per cent bigger than the standard full moon.

It won't actually be pink in colour, as it gets its name from the fact it coincides with the blossom of spring flowers, but it will be pretty impressive.

People will be able to see it after moonrise, and for most of Tuesday evening, although it's expected to be at its best when at its fullest point around 3.35am on Wednesday.

Astronomer Bruce McClure of EarthSky previously said: "Watch for the biggest full moon of the year to shine all night long as it beams in the east after sunset April 7. climbs highest up for the night around midnight, and sets in the west around sunrise April 8."

The lunar spectacle happens when the full moon is at its closest orbital point to Earth.

We at Edinburgh Live are keen to see your supermoon pictures above the city's skies. Feel free to share your photos with us by emailing news@edinburghlive.co.uk or commenting beneath this article on social media.
