What time William Shatner goes into space today - watch it live

William Shatner is due to leap for the stars today on his first (real-life) space flight.

The Star Trek actor will be taking part in billionaire Jeff Bezos' mission to form a space tourism industry.

This will be the second crewed flight as part of Blue Origin's space programme.

Previously, Jeff Bezos flew on the system alongside his brother Mark and two other passengers over 66 miles into space last July.

The flight is scheduled for around 3.30pm UK time and will be lifting off from Van Horn, Texas.

If the flight is successful, it will make Shatner, 90, the oldest human ever to fly into space.

Wally Funk, 82, previously held the prestigious title after flying alongside Bezos.

Canadian Shatner told reporters that he expected the toughest part of the flight to be climbing into his seat.

"The only thing about age that has application to this particular vehicle is getting in and out of the seat with any kind od arthritis," he said.

"So unless you're really supple, getting in and out of the seatrs in weight, when we're in gravity, is a chore.

"But of course it's designed to float out of the seat, in weightlessness."

The capsule carrying the space explorers today, Alan Sheparad - named after the first American in space in 1961 - will be its 18th flight overall.

The three other passengers flying alongside Shtner are Audrey Powers, a Blue Origin exec, Chris Boshuizen, a former NASA engineer and Glen de Vries, Chief exec of the clinical research firm Medidata Solutions.

How to watch the flight

The Blue Origin rocket launch will be recorded live so everyone around the world can watch it via live stream.

You can watch it via the Space website or through Blue Origin's YouTube Channel or at the top of this story.
