What time will it start snowing in Edinburgh? Fresh weather warning issued for Lothians

Snow and ice is forecast to arrive in Edinburgh and the Lothians in the coming days, with Met Office weather warnings in place.

Forecasters have put a yellow alert in place for Sunday and Monday, with the worst of the weather likely to hit West Lothian, west Edinburgh and Fife.

The Met Office say "an area of rain, sleet and snow will move south through Sunday night with the potential for icy surfaces and some travel disruption."

Roads and railways could be affected, with injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces also more likely. Icy patches are also expected on untreated roads, pavements and cycle routes.

While roads could be affected, disruption is likely to be less significant than previous weather episodes due to the travel ban currently in place across the country.

The yellow weather warning will be in place from 6pm on Sunday right through to 10am on Monday, so a prolonged spell of bad weather could be on the cards.

While parts of Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife will be affected, the conditions are expected to be just as bad in the west of Scotland.

Edinburgh Live reported earlier on Saturday how heavy rain was expected to batter the Scottish capital throughout Boxing Day.

Heavy rain is expected to arrive around 3pm or 4pm and stick around until 9pm, when things could ease a little.
