What time thunderstorms are set to hit Greater Manchester this weekend

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of the UK and Greater Manchester over the weekend. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for Greater Manchester, for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The change in weather comes after temperatures peaked a little higher than they have in recent days, to around 27 degrees celsius in Greater Manchester. Temperatures will still be in the low 20s over the weekend.

While we can expect to see some rain showers on Friday, the storms are expected to start around 10am on Saturday and later in the afternoon on Sunday. There will still be some sunny and driers spells in between over the course of the weekend.

The Met Office warning reads: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Saturday, during the morning mainly over parts of England before becoming mainly focused over northern England and Scotland by late afternoon/evening.

"Some intense downpours are likely and whilst rainfall accumulations will vary from place to place, as much as 50 mm of rain could fall in a short space of time in some locations. Hail, lightning and gusty winds will be additional hazards.

"Yellow warnings can be issued for a range of weather situations. Many are issued when it is likely that the weather will cause some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places.

"Many people may be able to continue with their daily routine, but there will be some that will be directly impacted and so it is important to assess if you could be affected."

A yellow weather warning warns of potential flooding of homes and businesses that could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds; fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life; where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services; spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures; some communities might become cut off if roads flood and power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
