What time the Queen's funeral starts and everything else you need to know

The state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II will be held on Monday, September 19, after the monarch passed away at Balmoral on September 8.

The UK's longest-reigning monarch will be laid to rest after ruling for more than 70 years.

After her death, a period of national mourning began, which will conclude at the end of the day on Monday after she is laid to rest at the King George VI memorial chapel.

What time does the Queen's funeral start?

The Queen's lying-in-state at the Palace of Westminster ended at 6.30am, after which her coffin will be moved to Westminster Abbey for the funeral at 10.44am.

King Charles III will lead his family behind the coffin as it is moved, walking alongside the Princess Royal, the Duke of York, and Earl of Wessex.

The coffin is due to arrive at Westminster Abbey just after 10.50am, and the funeral service will begin at 11am.

What will happen during the funeral?

Prior to service beginning, the tenor bell will toll every minute for 96 minutes, one for each year of the Queen's life.

The Queen's funeral will be conducted by the Dean of Westminster, who said: "I think, like any funeral, this is an opportunity for us to mourn because we’ve lost someone we held dear and respected.

“This is an opportunity for us to give thanks for an extraordinary life and an extraordinary achievement, this is an opportunity for us to pray for our new king and for his family in their grief, and this is an opportunity, if you like, for us to give the grief somewhere to go.

"A nation and Commonwealth, quite frankly the whole world, will be paying attention and the abbey will be a bit of a crucible holding all that, if you like.”

The service will conclude with The Last Post marking the beginning of a national two-minute silence at 11.55am.

The Queen's Piper will then proceed to play Reveille, the national anthem, and a lament. The service is set to end at 12pm.

Following the service, the Queen's coffin will be taken in procession to Wellington Arch at around 12.15pm, arriving at approximately 1pm.

Upon arriving at Wellington Arch, the Queen's coffin will be lifted off the gun carriage and placed in the state hearse, which will take it to Windsor as the parade gives a royal salute and the national anthem is played.

A committal service will take place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor at 4pm. There will then be a private interment service with senior members of the royal family, after which the Queen will be laid to rest.
