What time is Tokyo 2020 Paralympics opening ceremony? TV channel, live stream and more

The Olympic Games may be over but the action in Tokyo definitely isn't, with the 16th edition of the Paralympics now set to get underway.

Excitement is building and again, things will kick off with a glittering opening ceremony, albeit one without spectators at the Olympic Stadium.

Here's everything you need to know about what's going on, and how you can watch it.

When is the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games opening ceremony?

The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday, August 24. It will commence at 12pm UK time (8pm local time) and is scheduled to last between three and four hours.

What television channel is the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games on and can I live stream it?

The ceremony will be live on Channel 4, with the coverage commencing at 11.30am UK time and continuing until 3.15pm.

The ceremony can also be streamed live via the Channel 4 website.

Can I watch the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games opening ceremony for free?

Yes. Channel 4 is free for all UK viewers with a valid TV licence.

Who will be presenting the Channel 4 coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics opening ceremony?

Ade Adepitan and Tanni Grey-Thompson will present live coverage from the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. Commentary will come from Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Rob Walker.

What if I can't watch the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games opening ceremony live?

Channel 4 will be showing a 50-minute highlight package of the ceremony at 11.05pm UK time on Tuesday night. The channel's live coverage of the action will get underway soon after, with the programme starting 12.55am UK time on Wednesday morning.

What will happen at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games opening ceremony?

Despite no fans being allowed in the 68,000 seater stadium, there will still be the traditional parade of athletes and teams around the stadium.

Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii will be performing at the event, although it has yet to be confirmed at what point or for how long.

Organisers have said: "When people look back on the Tokyo 2020 Games in 50 or 100 years time, the Games should have been a catalyst for change in culture, society and values leading to the realisation of a more sustainable, spiritually richer, happier society."
