What time is the Vigil of the Princes with King Charles today

The Vigil of the Princes will take place this evening and will be carried out by King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.

The Queen's children will mount guard at the four corners of the catafalque in Westminster Hall for the 15-minute vigil at 7.30pm. All will be in military uniform, including Prince Andrew, who as a non-working royal has been granted dispensation to wear uniform for this moment as a mark of respect.

A similar vigil also took place in Edinburgh earlier this week with some 33,000 people filing through St Giles’ Cathedral to pay their last respects. Tomorrow evening, Queen Elizabeth's eight grandchildren, including Princes William and Harry, will also stand vigil beside her coffin.

Already tens of thousands of people from all walks of life from Britain and around the world have patiently queued for the opportunity to pass by the coffin. The queue for members of the public to pay their respects and attend the Queen's lying-in-state has reached the maximum capacity of five miles this morning, and it is currently closed and will not reopen until 15:50 at the earliest.

Officials expect about 750,000 people to view the coffin before the lying-in-state ends at 6.30 a.m on Monday.

Similar crowds are also expected to be observed on Monday as mourners wave their last goodbye to Her Majesty. Her coffin will be transported from Westminster Palace, where it has been since Wednesday for the lying-in-state, to Westminster Abbey for the state funeral.

Following the funeral, the coffin will be taken to Windsor Castle, where the Queen will be interred during a private burial at King George VI Memorial Chapel in St George’s Chapel.
