What time is the Prime Minister's coronavirus press conference today and what is he expected to say?

The Prime Minister will lead a Downing Street press conference later this afternoon, No 10 has confirmed.

Boris Johnson will use the opportunity to update the nation on the latest coronavirus developments and the government's response to the pandemic.

It will take place at 5pm, however it is currently unclear who he will be joined by.

It comes as ministers are set to begin reviewing the current lockdown restrictions from today ahead of the Prime Minister's announcement setting out his 'roadmap' out of lockdown in England on the week beginning February 22.

He said earlier on Monday while speaking to broadcasters in Kent that the government would provide target dates for sectors to reopen "if we possibly can" when he reveals his roadmap next week.

The press conference is likely to lead with the news that the government has reached its target of vaccinating more than 15 million people across the UK.

Mr Johnson announced on Sunday that in England, jabs have been offered to everyone in the government's top four priority groups.

It also comes after three new areas in the UK introduced door-to-door testing due to the South African variant of coronavirus being detected.

Middlesbrough, Hampshire and more areas in Walsall will now be offered extra testing for the virus.

People living within the targeted areas are being encouraged to take a Covid-19 test even if they aren't showing any symptoms of the virus, the government announced on Saturday.
