What time is the Nicola Sturgeon update today and how to watch the Scottish FM's covid speech?

Nicola Sturgeon is set to reveal Scotland's roadmap out of lockdown this afternoon, setting out what life may look like in the coming months.

It comes as Scotland's youngest pupils headed back to the classroom earlier this week, with the First Minister reiterating that education will be a top priority in the country's lockdown exit plan.

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson set out the four-step plan for gradually lifting restrictions in England. It could see all legal restrictions on social contact lifted by 21 June down south, while shops, hairdressers, gyms and outdoor hospitality could reopen on 12 April.

Here's when to watch Nicola Sturgeon today and what to expect from the update.

What time is the Nicola Sturgeon update today and how to watch it?

An update from Ms Sturgeon is currently scheduled at Holyrood for Tuesday afternoon, at around 2:15pm.

You can tune into the statement on BBC One Scotland and BBC Scotland TV channels, you can access these via the BBC iPlayer here. You can also watch live coverage on Scottish Parliament TV here.

What can I expect to find out?

While Boris Johnson did set out specific dates, Nicola Sturgeon has warned she will be guided by the data and not dates.

In a statement last week, she said: "It will aim to set out how we will use and balance all the tools at our disposal - restrictions and advice, vaccination, test and protect, and travel restrictions - to restore, on a phased basis, greater normality to our everyday lives."

The First Minister has repeatedly said the Scottish Government will take a cautious approach when it comes to lifting Covid restrictions, with the aim of avoiding another lockdown.

"The framework will not set out hard and fast dates for the easing of all restrictions, as I indicated last week it's really important at this stage of the pandemic, particularly given everything we learned from our emergence from the first lockdown, that we're driven by data more than we are by dates."

She added: "In due course, a return to the geographic levels system when we would decide if all, or parts, of the country may move out of level four down to level three and that is the point where more parts of the economy will start to open up."
