What is the Gold Cup?
The Gold Cup is a gruelling test of stamina which sees horse and jockey compete over 22 fences and more than three miles.
It is the Cheltenham Festival's showpiece event, a Grade 1 race regarded as among the most prestigious of all National Hunt races and sometimes dubbed the 'Blue Riband' of jump racing.
The prize fund is more than £600,000.
When is the Gold Cup?
The race takes place today, Friday March 15 and will be shown live on Racing TV and ITV.
It is set to start at 3.30pm and is the final 'Championship' race of the festival.
