What time is Prime Minister Boris Johnson speaking at coronavirus press conference?

Boris Johnson is set to host a press conference tonight after addressing MPs in the House of Commons over the reopening of schools.

The Prime Minister is expected to speak at 5pm tonight as he addresses the nation via a televised briefing from Downing Street.

Chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance and England's deputy chief medical officer Jonathan Van-Tam will be joining the Prime Minister at the conference.

This afternoon Mr Johnson spoke to Parliament about when schools will reopen and said they will now hope to reopen on March 8 and not after February half term as was previously hoped.

Mr Johnson said that 6.8m people have been vaccinated, 13% of the entire adult population, and that the government were on track to offer a first dose by middle of February.

But the Prime Minister said that schools would not be able to reopen after February half term.

He said: "Reopening schools must be our first national priority, I also know how they need as much certainty as possible.

"It will not be possible to reopen schools after February half term.

"I know how frustrating that will be for parents and carers and I know the worries about the mental health of our young people.

"If we achieve our target of vaccinating the key four groups by February 15, we hope it will be safe to reopen schools the week beginning the 8th of March."

Mr Johnson acknowledged the news would be disappointing and set out a plan for how pupils will catch up.

He also confirmed that the government will continue providing free school meals until they have returned to the classroom.

He also announced the government would be introducing harsher measures at the border to stop new strains of the virus entering the UK.

People arriving from 22 countries will now have to isolate in government provided accommodation for ten days, they will be met at the airport and taken to quarantine.

Mr Johnson said we can't relax lockdown restrictions too soon but by the middle of February we would be in a better place to "charter a way out of lockdown".
