What time is Nicola Sturgeon update today as Scotland Covid briefing returns

Nicola Sturgeon will today update the nation on the progress being made to drive down Covid-19 case numbers and vaccinate those most vulnerable to the virus.

The First Minister will take to the podium for a coronavirus briefing shortly after midday, with the latest case numbers issued along with figures for the amount of people who have received the first and second doses of vaccine.

Lockdown measures and school closures are set to continue until the middle of February at the earliest, although a review will be carried out by the Scottish Government next week.

No major announcements are expected today so far as lockdown or schools are concerned, but we may be given an indication as to what the next steps are and the likelihood of any changes being announced next week.

So how do I watch the briefing?

The update will be broadcast live on the BBC Scotland channel from 12.15pm. It will start with a statement from the First Minister before leading into questions from the media.

It was announced on Tuesday that Scotland is open to the idea of introducing quarantine hotels for those entering the country.

Deputy first minister John Swinney said: "Border controls will work best on a four nations basis, otherwise for example, if Scotland establishes a supervised quarantine regime and England does not, that could be problematic if unrestricted travel between Scotland and England resumes.

"The Scottish Government believes that a comprehensive system of supervised quarantine is required and so I can confirm that the Scottish Government will initially go at least as far as any UK Government announcement in enhancing quarantine arrangements, including through the use of hotels."
