What time is Nicola Sturgeon's lockdown review announcement today and how to watch it

Nicola Sturgeon is set to make an announcement today on Scotland's final lockdown review of the year in the run up to Christmas.

The First Minister will update any changes to the five-tier system ahead the country's tier 4 lockdown on Boxing Day amid fears of the new virus strain spreading rapidly.

Only 18 cases of the mutant variant were officially identified in Scotland yesterday, but experts believe that number is a significant underestimate.

The Scottish Government and experts are trying to stop the spread of the new sprain from spreading north, particularly to rural areas near England's border.

With most councils already in tier 3, Sturgeon will give details on any changes as she faces MSPs questions in the Scottish Parliament.

What time is the update today?

The First Minister's update today will be in the Scottish Parliament, rather than the usual format of the daily briefing.

She will face question from MSPs after the update rather than from the media.

Depending on debates in parliament scheduled before the update, she will speak at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, December 22.

How can you watch the announcement?

The update will be broadcast live on BBC Scotland.

You will be able to watch the announcement on the Scottish Parliament TV   website or via the Scottish Government's live stream on their Twitter feed.
