What time is Nicola Sturgeon's lockdown announcement today and how to watch it on TV

Nicola Sturgeon will be making her final lockdown announcement before Christmas today - with Scotland set to head into Level 4 restrictions on Boxing Day for three weeks.

The First Minister will give an update at parliament outlining the toughest measures. The strictest level of Scotland's lockdown will be in place following festive household mixing in a bid to curb the spread of a new variant of coronavirus.

What time?

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to deliver her statement on coronavirus restrictions to the Scottish Parliament at around 2:05pm this afternoon (Tuesday 22 December).

What can we expect?

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to reconfirm Scotland that will face the toughest Level 4 lockdown restrictions from Boxing Day.

The new nationwide lockdown is a result of a new mutant variant of the deadly virus, which is 70% more transmissible than the original strain and is thought to be fuelling cases in England and Wales.

Scots have been urged to stick to new Christmas rules and only meet family members outdoors if possible. Three households to a maximum of eight people aged 12 and over are only allowed to meet for just 24 hours over Christmas Day.

A nationwide travel ban has also been enforced, with the exception of Christmas Day.

Where can I watch it?

You can watch live on the Scottish Government's website, Twitter or you can tune in to Politics Scotland Special on BBC One Scotland and BBC Parliament.
