What time is Nicola Sturgeon's Covid update today? Where to watch and what to expect

Nicola Sturgeon is set to address the nation this afternoon in her weekly Covid-19 update.

The First Minister will provide the latest details on Scotland's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes after Health Secretary Humza Yousaf claimed that Scotland was 'through the worst of Omicron' following a rough period throughout Christmas and New Year.

Case numbers are now decreasing steadily but there continues to be added pressure on our health service with huge backlogs of appointments and screenings.

The First Minister will provide an update on the pandemic, such as the latest Covid figures across Scotland as well as any changes or planned changes to the current restrictions.

Here are all the details on when and where to watch today's announcement as well as what to expect.

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to give the update to the Scottish Parliament just after 2pm.

The First Minister will give an update and then face questions from MSPs afterwards.

What is the First Minister expected to say?

The First Minister will give an update on the current coronavirus figures and the number of people in hospital with the virus.

Despite the downturn in cases, the NHS continues to be under substantial pressure, according to the Health Secretary.

Yesterday, the Scottish Government announced that £82.6 million has been allocated to health boards across the country to help expand teams within GP practices and modernise systems.

A further £2 million has also been allocated to modernise telephone systems within practices which will improve call waiting times for patients.

It is likely that the First Minister will include some explanation on this funding in her update this afternoon.

The vast majority of restrictions have been lifted, with hospitality venues now fully reopened following a reimposition of certain measures over the festive period in an effort to curb the spread of the omicron variant.

However, some rules remain in place including face mask requirements.

The First Minister has cautiously eased restrictions in Scotland, but further insight could be provided today.

During the announcement, the First Minister will also provide an update on Scotland's daily figures.

This includes Covid cases, hospitalisations and deaths as well as vaccination figures.

Yesterday - Monday, February 7 - the Scottish Government reported 5,809 new coronavirus cases but no deaths.

However, officials noted that register offices are generally closed at the weekend meaning that the number of deaths may not be fully accurate.

The First Minister is then expected to face questions from MSPs today on the subject after she makes her weekly update on the government response to the pandemic.

Where can you watch?

You can tune in to the update on Scottish Government TV at 2pm.

Alternatively, you can catch the stream live on our Facebook page as well as across the Scottish Government social media platforms.
