What time is Nicola Sturgeon's coronavirus lockdown announcement today and how to watch

Nicola Sturgeon is set to announce the latest update on Scotland's five-tier coronavirus lockdown system today.

The First Minister has warned that stubbornly high Covid-19 cases will keep almost all of Scotland’s 32 councils in their current virus alert group.

Those in the Midlothian region had been hoping to drop from level 3 to level 2, which would have allowed a bit more freedom for pubs and restaurants.

But a week after sending the hint, the Scottish Government has revealed public health advisers are concerned.

It means only East Lothian is expected to drop to level 2.

Glasgow and 10 neighbouring councils will stay at the highest level 4, while the rest also remain in their tiers.

The First Minister will make a speech to parliament on Tuesday afternoon to reveal any changes.

She said yesterday the "overwhelming majority of local authority areas will remain in the current level".

Sturgeon added: "Last week we indicated that East Lothian and Midlothian – if there was no deterioration in their positions – would, from tomorrow, move down from Level 3 to Level 2.

"I can confirm that this will go ahead for East Lothian.

"However, the national incident management team has expressed some concern this morning about a rise in cases and test positivity over the past few days in Midlothian."

Those who were plunged into tier 4 on Friday are experiencing restrictions on travel, closure of non essential shops, hairdressers, pubs and gyms.

Sturgeon is also still in discussions about the final decision for easing lockdown over Christmas.

The SNP leader yesterday called for caution and said Scots should expect a "slight" easing, but any temporary reduction in covid rules will not stretch to Hogmanay, she warned.

So, what time is Nicola Sturgeon's speech today and how can you watch it?

The First Minister's update today will be in the Scottish Parliament, rather than the usual format of the daily briefing.

She will face question from MSPs after the update rather than from the media.

Depending on debates in parliament scheduled before the update, she will speak at around 2.15 - 3.15pm on Tuesday, November 24.

How can you watch the announcement?

Sturgeon’s update will be broadcast live on BBC Scotland.

You will be able to watch the announcement on the Scottish Parliament TV website.
